The Rocky Road to Entitlement

 

 

To the store I made a trip 
For my fave, Mint Chocolate Chip
And on the shelves a vast array
Save one bare spot in the display

 

Aghast, oh no! Where is my prize?
My favorite flavor I idolize 
The creamy, dreamy chocolate mint
With no other choice am I content

 

'Forced' to choose another one
All fall far short; my world undone!
Oh how much I rue my fate
Of settling on one second rate

 

Then a light-bulb moment of enthrall
Reveals entitlement; spoiled gall
Many others never get the chance
ANY ice cream flavor to experience

 

So I grab my alternate (Rocky Road)
As I sheepishly view the motherlode
Of dozens of flavors I'd just disdained
With viewpoint fresh and clarity gained

 

Instead I commit that from now on
Content I'll be when first choice gone
Depart from me, lust for chocolate mint
I reject the Rocky Road to Entitlement
